If you are in receipt of an OFP payment and your youngest child will soon turn 7 years of age, you will be reaching the end of your entitlement for this payment. Your local Intreo office issues a JST form 2 weeks before your Child’s birthday, if you have not received this please contact your local office to request this form.

If you are in receipt of JST and your youngest child will soon turn 14 years of age, you will be reaching the end of your entitlement for this payment. Your local Intreo office issues a Jobseeker Allowance form about 2 weeks before your Child’s birthday, if you have not received this please make a claim for Jobseekers Allowance online at www.mywelfare.ie.

Students

If you are a student, you will not qualify for a Jobseeker Payment in your own rite.

If you turn 18 whilst studying and your parent or guardian has a Jobseeker Claim, they will receive a form to be completed by the child’s School/University/education provider. You will continue to receive payment for this young adult until their course of study is complete or until the young adult turns 22 if still studying. If you have not received this form and your Qualified Child is eligible for an extended payment whilst studying, please contact your local Intreo office.

A Qualified Child (you may get an extra amount for your child called an Increase for a Qualified Child (IQC) if you are getting certain payments and if your child meets certain conditions. Your child does not have to be financially dependent on you. Your child can work and earn money and this does not affect the increase paid to you.) can work without any means being associated with their parent’s claim, provided that Irish Employment Law is followed for the employment.

Please note that the Department carries out checks regularly with Further Education providers and cross checks PPSN’s of students and open Jobseekers claims. If you have made a Jobseeker claim and signed the declaration to confirm you are not a student and it later transpires that you are in fact a student, you will be liable to repay the Jobseeker payments you received during the period of study to the Department of Social Protection in full. Any overpayment will continue to be linked with your PPSN until the debt has been repaid.

Please note that if your personal or family circumstances change you must notify your Local Intreo Office to avoid sanctions.
